When was the last time you opened your kitchen cupboard to
find it bare? Or had to plan a meal for your family without the use of
a stove—only an electric skillet? Or you had no means of keeping meat
or milk cold for your children? What if you reached for a bar of soap
to wash your hands or the toothpaste to brush your teeth and neither
was available? Most of us can only imagine the above situations but they are very real to those who visit the Curtis Food Pantry. Since opening in July of 2002, the food pantry has served hundreds of needy people and families in our community. The Curtis Food Pantry is an agency associated with the Golden Harvest Food Bank and helps to distribute food free of charge to those who qualify in the Augusta area. We are currently open the second and fourth Thursdays of each month from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. To involve our church family in serving, we have a list of suggested items for donation that emphasizes different needs each month. These include nonperishable food items as well as personal care items. For anyone desiring to know more about this ministry—or just to observe it in operation—we invite you to join us. Our guarantee is that gratitude will become a daily attitude as you open your cupboard or refrigerator—and brush your teeth! “I want you to share your food with the hungry and to welcome poor wanderers…give clothes to those who need them…feed the hungry and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness and the darkness around you will be as bright as day.” Isaiah 58:7, 10 |
