Disaster Relief

Curtis Church is providing opportunities for more peopel to be involved in Disaster Relief through the Georgia Baptist Convention, who works closely with the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention's Disaster Relief Ministry.

On Sunday, July 25, we were privileged to have Stuart Lang, Disaster Relief Coordinator for the Georgia Baptist Convention as our guest speaker. He helped us understand the many opportunities of this ministry and challenged us to be involved.
Will you?

Disaster Relief Facts:
  • Volunteers are assigned to a unit at the time of training.
  • When their unit is activated to respond to a disaster, the unit director is responsible for calling all volunteers assigned to his unit.
  • Volunteers can serve in various roles: Chaplaincy, Childcare, Clean-up & Recovery, Communications, and Feeding
  • Volunteers must be trained during official events
  • Volunteers generally serve for five days: Day 1, travel to site. Days 2-4, serve. Day 5, return home.
  • Volunteers can specify when they could be called out subsequent to the disaster: Immediately, two weeks after, or later.
