I Peter 5:6 “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time.

Ps. 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God.”

God does His mightiest work in the humble and still. What looked like a waste of time to the world is the very place God set bushes on fire, parted seas, pushed back armies, and calmed violent storms. Jesus modeled humility in being “still” and resting quietly in God’s will. I wonder if we are addicted to activity because we are lacking in humility? Humility says, “I need time with God more than anything or anyone in my life. I cannot do life without being still and humbling myself before the Lord.” How about you? Why not take time right now to ask God to show you what it would mean for you to humble yourself before the Lord and “be still?”

Today’s Prayer

Lord in this world of ever moving activity and constant pressure to do life without you, please slow me down to be still and humble myself before you. Give me a hunger and a thirst for time with You. Thank you for your promise to lift me up when I take time to be still. May I walk through my day clothed with your humility because I have taken time to be still and know You.
