“And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me.” Matthew 18:5
I found myself in early 2011 half way across the world, in Xian, China, doing something I never dreamed I would do. We welcomed a very small, very sick and very scared little boy into our family. He was a boy, who months earlier had no hope of physical healing or knowing the love of family. Can you imagine a two year old with no hope? In his eyes we saw his fear and his uncertainty. But we knew, beyond a shadow of any doubt, that God had spoken and called us to become parents again at the age of 46! YIKES! That experience and our decision to add to our family through adoption has been profoundly life changing for all of us. God asked us to join Him where He was at work. He asked us to reach out with compassion. As a result, He richly blessed us with a beautiful boy who is our bright light and great joy. What started, as a trip to “rescue” a young boy became God doing a great work in the heart of our family.
God desires for us to have a heart for the lost, for the hurting, for those with no hope. To see others through the eyes of Christ requires us staying close to the Father and asking Him to develop within us a heart of compassion.
Today’s Prayer
Lord, create in me a heart of compassion. Allow me to see others through Your eyes. Use my life, as only You can, to offer hope to those in need. Bless me Lord with the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus!
