The dictionary defines patience as, the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset.

For me, having to wait is one of the greatest tests of my patience. I’m usually in a hurry and don’t like to waste time. Yet, the verse in Colossians 3 describes patience as part of our spiritual clothing. There are some things the Lord will not do for me. He expects me to grow in spiritual maturity, and patience is one of those character traits.

I want to have patience for everyone and everything I will encounter on a daily basis, AND the wisdom to know how to respond. When we are looking for answers, look first to God’s Word. James 1:5 (NIV) says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” I need to pray for God’s wisdom daily; for every word I speak or write. I need to be alert to the Spirit’s warning when impatience is beginning to surface. If I am listening to the Lord, I will have the patience I need at that time.

Today’s Prayer…

Lord thank you that you call me to put on patience. In myself this is impossible, but in you real patience with the people and situations around me is possible. Help me listen to your wisdom and learn to respond with your direction.
